Legendary Rush Drummer Neil Peart Dead at 67
Canadian progressive rock drummer Neil Peart of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band Rush has died at 67. Known for his technical mastery and live performances, Peart joined Rush six years after the formation of the band and took over as drummer when original drummer and founding member John Rutsey left the band in 1974. Rush consisted of Neil Peart, Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson and continued to play together until 2015, when it was announced that Peart would be leaving the band to focus on his health.
Peart died on Wednesday January 7, 2020, in Santa Monica, California, but his death was not formally announced until Friday January 10. Peart leaves behind his wife Carrie Nuttall and daughter Olivia. It was announced that Peart died of brain cancer.
