Joe Marcinek Program Attached (You’re Gonna Need It!)
Even with a program, it’s damn near impossible keeping up with Joe Marcinek. If you google the word “ubiquitous,” pretty sure Joe’s grinning picture is attached (see above).
He hosted the Jam Room for the first time on Jam Cruise 18 and kept it rocking from 2:30 until 6 a.m. with a constant stream of the best the boat had to offer, including George Porter Jr., Tony Hall, Adam Deitch, Marcus King, Sput, Nikki Glaspie, Brock Butler and two dozen more. From their he jetted to California for NAMM, and now he’s ready for another bunch of projects.
Marcinek plays solo tonight (January 30) at Finnegan’s Pub in Dyer in his home state of Indiana (although Florida is working on stealing him). Speaking of Florida, he’s put together a band with Melvin Seals and will hit Dunedin Brewery and then two nights at The New Standard in Winter Park. The rhythm section features two great players: Ashley Galbraith (bass) and Taylor Galbraith (drums). Both Winter Park shows will also feature the Papa Mali-Bobby Vega duo, and Unlimited Devotion will play late-night Saturday. The Tommy Shugart Trio opens at Dunedin; Shugart was all over Jam Cruise on keyboards.
Marcinek then will play Guanabanas with some Heavy Pets, specifically Jim Wuest, Tony D’Amato, and Jamie Newitt. Then it’s on to Funk Fest Punta Gorda. Again this year he will be accompanied by three titans: Tony Hall (Dumpstaphunk) on bass, Nikki Glaspie (The Nth Power) on drums, and Jamar Woods (The Fritz) on keyboards, and everybody sings! Marcinek will also host the late-night jam with Shugart and the Galbraiths.
Next, he heads to Boca Raton for one night and then a three-day run at The Green Parrot in Key West with Steve Molitz (Particle), keyboards; Freekbass; and Pete Koopmans (Family Groove Company), drums.
But wait! There’s more! Marcinek and David Gans have teamed up for an All-Star Tribute to Dylan and the Dead. They will play the Fox Theatre in Boulder with Adam Perry, Edwin Hurwitz, and other Colorado players. Then they take part in 10 Mile Ride: A Deadhead Ski Trip in Frisco along with Circles Around the Sun, Grateful Bluegrass Boys, Marcus Rezak’s Shred is Dead, and others. And Marcinek and Gans will play Cincinnati in April with Lee Owen, Scott Cardner, and Dino English (Dark Star Orchestra).
See what we mean? Here’s your very own program, subject to additions, of course!
