Gasparilla Music Festival Announces Initial Lineup, and It’s a Doozy
The wait is over for the initial lineup for Gasparilla Music Festival, and, boy, was it worth it! Grammy winners Brandi Carlile and Portugal. The Man will be headlining the annual festival to be held March 7-8 at Tampa’s Curtis Hixon Park along with hip hop legends De La Soul, Grammy-nominated rockers Rival Sons, and soul singer Curtis Harding.
They’ll be joined by a diverse undercard including The Nude Party, Marco Benevento, Josh and the Jamtones, Photo Fire, Fre$h P, New Fang, Demi Nova, Visit Neptune, Bears and Lions, The Tampa Metro Youth Orchestra, and The Tony Tyler Trance performing the music of Derek and the Dominos. Expect more artists to be announced sometime in January.
By far, singer/songwriter Brandi Carlile is the biggest name with three Grammys under her belt from this year’s awards for Best American Roots Performance, Best American Roots Song for “The Joke,” and Best Americana Album for By the Way, I Forgive You. She’s been nominated again for four more next year, including Song of the Year for Tanya Tucker’s “Bring My Flowers Now.”
Winning a Grammy in 2018 for Best Pop Duo/group performance for their smash hit “Feel It Still,” alt-rockers Portugal. The Man are expected to be a huge draw as well. The song peaked at number one in 2017 on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Songs chart and catapulted the band to stardom even though they’ve been a fixture on the festival scene for years.
