‘Blue Eyed Girl’: New Music from Nikki Talley – and Lots of Shows

Outstanding singer, songwriter, and guitarist Nikki Talley and her guitar-playing husband, Jason Sharp, are hitting the road once again. The couple, joined by tour manager Eva, have a show at Yee-Haw Brewing Company in Greenville SC Friday, November 15, followed by eight shows in North Carolina. Talley also plays clawhammer banjo, and Sharp plays bass as well as they intertwine folk, Americana, bluegrass, and more into their sets. They’ve been on this mission for six years now. Eva has only been on tour for two years, primarily because she is only two years old.

You might recall some of Talley’s posts from last year, such as “Snowy update. Still no power so we’ve moved to the cozy basement (where the woodstove is located) so we’re all in one room.” With that in mind, they will head to Florida a lot sooner, landing in Jacksonville December 13 at Mudville Music Room. From there, Talley and Co. will crisscross the Sunshine State for 20 dates through the end of February. No snow in the forecast!

The show on Black Friday, November 29, will be special: it is the album release party for Blue Eyed Girl, their new album. The show is at Isis Music Hall in Asheville. Listen to the title track:

Over these past six years, Talley and Sharp have played hundreds of concerts and festival dates each year, including the recent Bass and Grass, where she put together her 7-Minute String Band, and lots of magical appearances at Suwannee Roots Revival and Suwannee Spring Reunion and their precursors at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park. Perhaps none was more magical than at Spring Reunion last March. We’ll let Betsie Green tell the story:

There were so many amazing sets of collaborative music throughout the weekend with members of several bands sharing the stage at once. One of those special moments that stands out is the Saturday morning opening set of Nikki Talley and Jason Sharp. The park was abuzz with news that Marty Stuart’s big black bus had arrived for his evening set. Singer-songwriter Nikki Talley was warming up the vocals on her first song and noticed that Marty Stuart was sitting side stage. Of course, she said hi and good morning to him between songs. Well, he strolled up and shared a few choruses with Nikki on her cover of “Long Black Veil” and then walked away. Stuart is not known for sitting in on sets and, according to his crew, had not done that in years. The magic of the Suwannee got him.
