Snarky Puppy’s GroundUP Music Festival: 3 Days of Sun, Fun, & Music

The juggernaut that is Snarky Puppy will bring their GroundUP Music Festival to Miami Beach and the North Beach Bandshell for the fourth time February 14-17, 2020. If you’ve attended before, you know. If you’ve seen Snarky Puppy and GroundUP bandmates on tour, you know. Even if you’ve just watched some of their DVDs or listened to some of their albums, you know. This is serious business — approached in the most joyous way possible.

Michael League, bassist, composer, and conceptual genius of SP, put his first band together in 2003, but accolades began to mushroom after 2012, and since then the band has become the very definition of the modern big band. They are a huge international success in addition to their enormous prominence here in the U.S.

Snarky Puppy will play all three nights of the festival with different sets and different lineups, possible given the dozens of amazing musicians who have performed with the band throughout the years. And many of the artists on the lineup are part of the GroundUP family of bands and musicians touching almost every genre imaginable.

Fellow New Yorkers and non-stop funk machine Lettuce will also excite, as will the venerable Michael McDonald. Latin Grammy-winning vocalist Lila Downs will also be part of the festivities. Brian Blade and the Fellowship Band highlight the work of the leader, who plays drums, composes, and produces, and has added guitar and vocals to his repertoire. And trumpeter Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah crisscrosses genres with his new album Ancestral Recall. And tenor sax man Chris Potter is artist at large.
