Psychedelic Porn Crumpets in Concert

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, a psych-rock band from Australia, have been on a fast-paced tour that will end in the U.S. at Desert Daze festival in Perris, California. Once they wrap up in their U.S., they will take their fierce jams over to the U.K. and Europe through the end of November.

Columbus, Ohio, was one of the lucky cities to host Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, on Monday October 7, at Ace of Cups, a small but mighty music venue. The turnout and energy of the crowd were incredible for a Monday night, and I am still recovering a couple days later. While on stage, Jack McEwan, the lead vocalist and guitarist of Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, took the time to acknowledge and thank their opener, Meatbodies, a garage rock band from California who have been alongside them on their U.S. tour. Each individual member of Meatbodies contributed to creating a perfectly potent garage rock sound to get the crowd loosened up before Psychedelic Porn Crumpets.

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets played songs from their 2016 album High Visceral, Pt. 1, their 2017 follow-up High Visceral, Pt. 2, and also songs from their latest album, And Now for the Whatchamacallit. The most notable songs played were “Cornflake,” “Gallop to Southport,” and “Bill’s Mandolin,” because not one head or body was motionless in the crowd. I’m not sure what’s in the water in Australia, but so many talented rock musicians come out of there. With fast and sharp guitar-shredding, Psychedelic Porn Crumpet puts themselves close to bands like King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, also from Australia, Ty Segall and Post Animal.

Just yesterday, Wednesday, October 9, they released their latest hard-hitting single “Mundungus,” and it absolutely slaps! “Mundungus” is the beautifully chaotic and explosive psych-rock song you’ve been craving. I certainly can not wait to hear more serious jams from this Aussie band.

The band have two more American shows: tonight (October 10) at Sister Bar in Albuquerque and Friday at Desert Daze in Lake Perris, California.
