Metallica to Headline Two Nights at Welcome to Rockville
Legendary eight-time Grammy Award-winning heavy metal rock band Metallica will headline two nights at the Welcome to Rockville music festival on May 8-10 in Daytona Beach.
The iconic rock music mega-festival Welcome to Rockville had announced earlier this year it would move its festival location from Jacksonville to Daytona Beach for the festival’s tenth year. The festival has yet to announce the full lineup of artists that will be performing at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach on Friday, May 8, Saturday, May 9, and Sunday, May 10, 2020.
Metallica’s headline announcement by festival promoter Danny Wimmer Presents mentions that the famed rock band will be performing on two separate nights and will include two different sets. Historically, Welcome to Rockville has consistently delivered some of the biggest names in rock to its stages since the festival’s inception in 2011. This well-attended festival continues to draw record numbers that included its highest attendance figures in 2019 with over 99,000 fans in attendance over the three-day weekend.
Metallica is comprised of members James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, Robert Trujillo and Lars Ulrich and was formed in Los Angeles in 1981 by Hetfield and Ulrich. Metallica has been nominated 18 times for a Grammy Award and has won the coveted award eight times. In 2009, Metallica was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The induction included the current lineup of band members and two previous members: Jason Newsted and Cliff Burton. The band has released ten studio albums and charted six number-one albums on Billboard’s top 200.
And this is the first of five festival appearances and ten shows at huge rock festivals next year, including Epicenter, Sonic Temple, Louder Than Life, and Aftershock scheduled for 2020.
