Outside Lands Becomes First U.S. Festival to Sell Legal Marijuana

In addition to a world-class music lineup, Outside Lands will once again feature Grass Lands, a curated area focused on all things marijuana. This was introduced in 2018 and has come back with some seriously strong vibes in 2019. The cannabis discovery area brings some of the most exciting developments in cannabis cultivation and processing, but something new has happened. Marijuana will be available to purchase legally at Outside Lands this year. Outside Lands recently got the go-ahead from San Francisco Office of Cannabis Wednesday. The music festival was granted the country’s first temporary sales permit just a few days ago. Outside Land kicks off today at Golden Gate Park.

Go Get Dazed and Confused (Responsibly)

Normal marijuana laws apply for those trying to purchase pot at Outside Lands. Attendees must be 21 or older to buy cannabis.  All vendors who are selling it will be located in the properly named Grass Lands. Grass Lands was around in 2018, but it only functioned as a “curated cannabis experience,” offering visitors the chance to try some THC-free edibles and visually analyze some new strands of cannabis. The temporary sales permit allows those attending Outside Lands to purchase up to seven grams of the flowered marijuana and up two grams of concentrates like oils and edibles.

San Francisco’s new rules that govern temporary weed sales do come with some warnings, though. Even though recreational marijuana use was legalized in throughout California in 2016, it is still illegal to use it in public. So those attending the fest should make sure they’re not lighting up anywhere and everywhere throughout the music festival. There will be a dedicated area for people to smoke their pot at Outside Lands, which will be set to the side away from vendors and hidden by some barriers.
