Gnarbeque – The Best Little Fest in the Midwest

Article by Jonathan Toland

The 5th Annual Gnarbeque Music + Arts Festival is kicking off this weekend in Columbus, Ohio! It begins Saturday, July 6 at noon and rages on through July 8 at 2 a.m. This Columbus-born festival will be featuring over 50 artists. Gnarbeque (“GBQ”) will be taking place at Woodland’s Backyard, spanning the surrounding area. There will be a myriad of local food and art vendors, live music, interactive art installations, prizes, and a weekend-long comedy experience. Joe Hertler & The Rainbow Seekers, Peanutbutter Williams, OG VERN, Snarls, and Risik are a few of the local music groups headlining this annual event.

A Festival is Born

Gnarbeque arises from humble beginnings. Local band Tourist Trap threw their first show four years ago in a basement, coupled with some backyard grilling and a few art wares for sale. Thus began the concept and reality of Gnarbeque, which has evolved into an annual mega-block celebration filled to the brim with local Columbus music and art. There is an altruistic component as well, all proceeds from this year’s Gnarbeque will be donated to CD102.5 For The Kids. From a small basement gig to a sold-out block party, Gnarbeque has become the place to be for your Fourth of July weekend festivities.

Come celebrate local music at a local venue while eating local food. Events like Gnarbeque are what makes Columbus such a special place. Check out the daily lineup for the music festival below!
