Roosevelt Collier Trio, The Heavy Pets Unite for Four Florida Shows
Two of the headlining bands from last month’s Orange Blossom Jamboree are joining forces for a four-date Florida swing. Pedal steel king Roosevelt Collier and his band and The Heavy Pets will hit Will’s Pub Wednesday June 12), 1904 Music Hall Thursday, Crowbar Friday, and The Funky Biscuit Saturday. The Saturday show, close to home for both of the South Florida groups, will also feature outstanding quartet Tand, who also crushed at OBJ.
For Orlando and Jacksonville, Collier will be joined by the incredible Matt Lapham on bass, the tremendous and unpredictable Anthony ‘AC’ Cole on drums and vocals, and keyboard player Keegan Matthews. In Tampa and Boca Raton, Jason Matthews (keyboards), Rodrigo Zambrano (bass), and Armando Lopez (drums) of Electric Kif will make it a quartet. (And Electric Kif also crushed at OBJ. What a weekend!) Count on Collier to play both pedal steel guitar and his new-fangled lap steel guitar (no longer in his lap!). Collier’s outstanding first (!!) album Exit 16 is a monster.
The Heavy Pets, South Florida’s acknowledged jam masters, are: Jeff Lloyd, guitar/vocals; Mike Garulli, guitar/harmonica/vocals; Jim Wuest, keys/vocals; Jamie Newitt, drums/vocals; and Tony D’Amato, bass. Their fourth studio album, Strawberry Mansion, was released last year to tremendous critical acclaim.
And do NOT be surprised to see sit-ins, collaborations, and more, since Collier and the Pets have performed together often.
Don’t make us come drag you to the show!
