Phantogram Announce 2019 Tour With Bob Moses
Article by Andi R. Mireles
A few weeks ago, Phantogram posted a picture on social media of the electronic rock duo in a studio with the caption “IV.” This seemed to be an obvious hint that a fourth album was in the works. They’ve followed up with a fall tour announcement, hitting some music festivals and performing headlining shows with supporting artist Bob Moses.
Phantogram has best been described as trip-hop, street beat, and psych-pop. Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel do such an amazing job at working together to create a genre of music that is beyond words. Coming from Greenwich, New York, a town consisting of maybe 5k people, makes you wonder where they discovered such a unique sound. It is hard to just throw them into a specific musical category, because they cover such a wide range of beats and sounds that no one has ever heard before.
Phantogram with Bob Moses
They were originally performing under the name Charlie Everywhere until they changed their name to Phantogram in 2009. That same year, they released their first full album Eyelid Movies. They now have three full-length albums and eight EPs, including a collab with the rapper Big Boi of Outkast.
Phantogram made their debut collab on Big Boi’s album Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors in 2012, where they were featured on three tracks. Big Grams dropped in the fall of 2015. The seven-track EP features the trio as well as artists Skrillex and Run the Jewels. They followed up with a festival tour starting in March of 2016 at the Burton U.S. Open Snowboarding Championships and ending at Outside Lands Festival in August of the same year. We’re hoping to hear the good news of another EP or a full-length album from the indie-rap group.
The Tour Starts Soon!
Phantogram will kick off their tour on June 2, but they will not start performing with Bob Moses until their stop in Reno, NV, on August 16. We are obviously pretty excited to see not only Phantogram blow our minds but also the insanely talented Bob Moses.
Bob Moses will be with Phantogram for a vast majority of their U.S. stops, minus five dates. They are touring in support of their new album Battle Lines. This album is reminiscent of circa 2002 Coldplay if Chris Martin decided to take acid and walk down the Sunset Strip. Harmonic electronics accompany dream-inducing lyrics with indie rock vibes.
