Suwannee Rising: Make Your Vote Count!
We are now six days out from the inaugural Suwannee Rising Music Festival at the magnificent Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida. You *may or may not* have noticed that I have posted numerous times about this new festival. That’s because this is personal. We — the Sisters and Brothers of the Suwannee — have lost three of the greatest events ever that were near and dear to our hearts, and we want to make damn sure that this new one rises from the ashes and shines brightly for years to come.
We can never get back the Wanee Music Festival, Bear Creek Music & Arts Festival, and AURA Music & Arts Festival, but the spirit that lived in all three still beats strongly in each one of us, and we hope that you will come share that spirit with us April 4-5-6 at Suwannee Rising. Be sure to check out the schedule here.
THE OFFICIAL MEET & GREET
Perhaps you’d like to stop by the official SOS/BOS Meet & Greet on Thursday at 2 PM. It will be on the Lake, and, seriously, you can’t miss it. Look for a couple hundred people eating, drinking, hugging, laughing, swearing, and loving festival life. It’s BYO. There will be plenty of food, but you are welcome to contribute in any way you’d like. Waneetopia isn’t a place; it’s a state of mind, and we are SO ready to return to that state.
OTEIL & FRIENDS
Oteil Burbridge is thoroughly entwined with Wanee and with Bear Creek. He was, of course, bass player for the Allman Brothers Band, and Oteil and the Peacemakers also played Wanee several times. And Oteil and various compatriots, including his late brother Kofi, also played numerous times at Bear Creek.
He has announced that his band for his Friday night set will include Jeff Chimenti on keyboards (Oteil’s Dead and Company bandmate), Scott Metzger on guitar (Joe Russo’s Almost Dead), Neal Casal also on guitar (Chris Robinson Brotherhood and Circles Around The Sun), and John Kimock on drums (Mike Gordon Band, Steve Kimock Crazy Engine).
BECAUSE OF THE LOTUS
No doubt you’ve checked out the amazing live painting and biofeedback pioneers Because of the Lotus at many SoSMP events, most recently at Purple Hatter’s Ball and Suwannee Hulaween. They just helped launch VI Jam Fest in St. John, Virgin Islands, and they will be at Suwannee Rising with other great visual artists and art installations. Be sure to check out The Levity Show!

I told you it was personal.
