WhigFest in Tampa is Almost Here!
No reason to flip your wigs, er, whigs, kids, because Whigfest is almost here! Whigfest Music & Arts Festival rolls into Tampa’s Ybor City this Saturday and Sunday, February 16th and 17th, for two days ridiculously full of music at four different stages along 7th and 8th Avenues, where 30+ bands will perform. This is the fifth and strongest lineup in the festival’s young history.
The Ritz Theatre, The Attic, First Chance, and Gaspar’s Grotto will feature music both days (actually, no music, only tasting in the Tasting Room!).
SATURDAY
Trampled by Turtles had a wonderful set at Suwannee Hulaween and headline at the Ritz, with Lindsay Lou also performing. Among those featured at The Attic is Come Back Alice, Blackbird Morning, Leon Majcen, Ella Jet & Future Soul, Liz Cooper & the Stampede, and the after-party with Hotel Garuda.
Gaspar’s Grotto boasts Southern Avenue, the awesome Memphis soul band who took Jam Cruise by storm, as well as The Honey Hounds, Bay Ledges, and The Elovators. Danielle Mohr, Helena Kletch, Carly Burruss (solo), and Blake Daniels are playing at First Chance.
SUNDAY
Tyler Childers tops the Sunday lineup with his Kentucky country rock, making his very first appearance in Tampa. Also at The Ritz are Front Country and Have Gun, Will Travel. The Applebutter Express, Geri X, and Austin Plaine take over The Attic, with late-show honors to Los Colognes.
The remarkable fusion bluegrass of Brett Bass and Melted Plectrum (that’s a guitar pick — I had to look it up) are at First Chance (and Bass melts about a dozen each show), along with Frankie Raye, and Kaleigh Baker & Matt Walker. Meanwhile, The Trongone Band, Trae Pierce & the T-Stones, and Danfield will shake it on down at Gaspar’s Grotto, with the other late show there by Flow Tribe.
