Ghost-Note Smack ‘Em Tour Kicks Off Right After GroundUP Music Festival
Snarky Puppy percussion beasts Robert “Sput” Searight and Nate Werth have this plan to funk everything up. Their Ghost-Note is intent on doing exactly that, an amalgam of jazz, hip hop, funk, and world with band and a rotating cast of friends who join the conversation from time to time.
They’ve been at it since 2015, with their first album Fortified and last year’s Swagism. Let’s check out the band members — and their amazing pedigrees!
Robert “Sput” Searight (Snarky Puppy, Herbie Hancock, Kendrick Lamar) – drums; Nate Werth (Snarky Puppy) – percussion; A.J. Brown (Snoop Dogg, Fred Hammond) – bass; Dwayne “MonoNeon” Thomas (Prince) – bass, guitar; Sylvester Onyejiaka (Prince, Quantic) – baritone sax, tenor sax, flute; Dominique Xavier Taplin (Prince, Toto) – keyboards; Jonathan Mones (Funky Knuckles, RC & The Gritz) – alto sax, flute; and Mike Jelani Brooks (Kirk Franklin, RC & The Gritz) – tenor saxophone, flute.
Regardless of which set of musicians actually steps on stage in front of you, you WILL be funked up, and you’ll say THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Their Smack ’Em Tour 2019 begins this Friday (February 8th) in Miami Beach at the GroundUP Music Festival, also featuring performances by Snarky Puppy (all three nights), David Crosby, Bokanté, and Lalah Hathaway. They continue with six dates with outstanding South Florida fusion band Electric Kif, beginning with a show presented by Bungalow Entertainment at The Abbey in Orlando (Leisure Chief also on the bill). From there, they hit three other Florida venues before heading to Charleston and Atlanta.
The beginning of March finds Ghost-Note on the West Coast for five shows with Umphrey’s McGee before returning to the East Coast for shows from Massachusetts to North Carolina, including two with Brandon ‘Taz’ Niederauer, and they’re slated for Electric Forest in June.
Ghost-Note: good for what ails you, no matter what it is!
