Beale Street Music Festival Lineup!
Wednesday was a great day for music fans in the Southeast as Memphis’s annual Beale Street Music Festival (BSMF) announced its 2019 lineup. This year’s lineup is loaded with tons of mainstream-level popular acts as well as legacy groups that most people will enjoy!
This year’s lineup seems to make a flip from previous years, which is a surprise coming from the theme of the year. For context, BSMF is just a piece of a larger event known as the Memphis in May International Festival. The festival aims to celebrate and promote Memphis while also highlighting other cultures around the world, usually focusing on one country or area of the world. With this year being Memphis’ bicentennial, the festival’s theme has been the city itself. With this, many were expecting the lineup to be laden with blues, rock and roll, and local rap artists, sounds the city is famous for having a heavy hand in creating and influencing. While all of these types of music are present in the lineup with amazing bands like Gary Clark JR, MoneyBagg Yo, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, and many others, there are few outside the genre of blues that it seems really fit the traditional “Memphis” sound, at least in relation to the pool of talent available in the world today.
But still, the festival has done an excellent job of booking acts that are big draws in their own right, and we are assured with names like Cardi B, Dave Matthew’s Band, and Shinedown that the festival will have no trouble selling tickets any time soon!
