One Nation Under A Groove: A Night of Funk & Neo-Soul – in Ybor City
“Get up, funky cats! It’s time to get down! Crowbar is the place where the crossroads collide. The best in Tampa Bay neo-soul, funk, and rock come together to put on a crossover show you don’t want to miss. Original music throughout the night with some covers sure to inspire your hips. Can you dig it?”
A great musical collective is uniting for a show on Friday, January 18th, at Crowbar in Ybor City (Tampa), with help from Bungalow Entertainment. Opening the show will be Danny & Alex. Also on the bill are Garden Club, who made a huge splash at The Scream of the Butterfly show last June with a riveting performance. Spinning in the courtyard will be Blassafrass.
The main event, titled One Nation Under A Groove: A Night of Funk & Neo-Soul, brings together players representing a dozen bands (at least), anchored by the trio of George Pennington III, guitar and vocals (Displace, George Pennington Band); Vinny Svoboda, bass (Displace); and Yral ‘datdudeondrums’ Morris (Come Back Alice, The Difference).
They will be joined by Levi Foe, who sings and plays keyboards and bass. Pennington, Svoboda, and Foe were all party of the recent Soft Parade: A Tribute to Jim Morrison on his 75th Birthday program put together by Pennington and Bungalow Entertainment.
The brass section boasts Joseph Kelemen, trombone and tuba; Bradlee Brown, trumpet; Richard Saez, trumpet; and Jordan Harris, trombone. All four of them were also part of the Doors tribute program. Natalie Depergola (Garden Club) and Evan Thibeault will play percussion. Cienna Alida and Rochelle Siddiq will add their vocals, and rappers Jroc Jones and Jus Henry round out this musical collaboration.
Doors open at 8 pm on January 18th, music at 9.
