Warren Haynes Presents: The Christmas Jam

For the 30th time, Christmas Jam will light up Asheville, and it happens this weekend (Friday, December 7th, and Saturday, December 8th). Warren Haynes, Gov’t Mule, and company are ready to continue their amazing work helping to sponsor Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity. The Jam has raised more than $2 million for Habitat and helped 36 families in need of decent, affordable housing. Because proceeds also go toward purchasing and developing land, donations were also put toward Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity’s Hudson Hills subdivision, which now houses 25 families.

You and a basketball team’s worth of clones might be able to catch all the action in and around Asheville, as there is music by day, music by night, and an art gallery as well for your enjoyment.

The main action occurs each evening, of course, inside the US Cellular Center. Friday night will be headlined by a performance of Dark Side of the Mule, with sets also from Mike Gordon, Grace Potter, Marco Benevento, and Jamey Johnson. Gov’t Mule plays again Saturday, along with Dave Grohl and Friends as they play “Play,” Joe Bonamassa, Jim James, and Eric Church.

The powerful list of special guests includes Audley Freed, Kevn Kinney, Mike Barnes, Ron Holloway, Jen Gunderman, Joanne Shaw Taylor, Jimmy Vivino, Patrick Hallahan, Robert Kearns, and Tyler Ramsey.

Three local venues will host music during the day both Friday and Saturday. At Jack of the Wood, you can hear Alexa Rose, Devils in Dust, Laura Blackley, and more, while Saturday’s lineup includes Nikki Talley and Jason Sharp, Brie Capone, and Hanna Kaminer.

Meanwhile, at The One Stop, Friday’s sets include Velvet Truckstop, Paper Crowns, and Scott Moss and the Hundred Dollar Handshakes. Sanctum Sully, Campfire Reverends, and Chris O’Neill are some of Saturday’s performers.

And the Asheville Music Hall hosts the Ron Holloway Band, Empire Strikes Back, Doc Aquatic, and others Friday. Saturday you’ll find the John Blake Organ Trio, Freeway Revival, the Asheville All-Stars, and more.

But wait! There’s more! The Satellite Art Gallery is open both days, with great art from a wide variety of styles and artists including Isadora Bullock, Caleb Williamson, and Stuart Engel. Also being presented is Between the Dark and Light: The Grateful Dead Photography of Jay Blakesberg, a slideshow/storytelling presentation presented by Blakesberg.

Of course there’s a Christmas Jam beer, a session ale, courtesy of Sierra Nevada! And the Jam will be streaming live on nugs.tv!
