Hootie & the Blowfish Set to Kick Off 2019 Tour
Iconic-pop-rock quartet Hootie & the Blowfish have announced their first tour in a decade. The highly anticipated reunion brings together the original lineup after a ten-year hiatus featuring Darius Rucker, Mark Bryan, Dean Felber, and Jim “Soni” Sonefield.
The band formed in 1986 in Columbia, South Carolina, known for major hits like “Hold My Hand,” “Let Her Cry,” and “Only Wanna Be With You,” will release a new album featuring new music supporting the tour.
The 2019 Group Therapy Tour commemorates the 25th anniversary of the release of the highly successful debut studio album Cracked Rear View, released in 1994.
Hootie & the Blowfish have sold more than 25 million albums, reached Billboard’s charts 17 times including three top 10 hits, and won two GRAMMY awards in 1996, Best New Artist and Best Pop Performance by a Group with Vocals.
During the band’s hiatus, Darius Rucker pursued a solo career as a country music performer. Rucker became an instant hit on the country charts, reaching with seven number one hits on country radio. Rucker has been touring extensively as a country artist performing in country music festivals and concerts.
Lead singer Darius Rucker says now feels like the right time.
“We’ve been talking about doing this for a while, and the 25th anniversary of Cracked Rear View just seemed like a good time to make another record and go out on tour and play for all the folks that used to come out and see us all the time. We haven’t been on tour in 12 years, so it just seemed like the right time to do it.”
The Group Therapy tour kicks off May 30th in Virginia Beach and will visit 44 cities during the U.S. tour produced by Live Nation. The tour wraps up with a return home to Columbia, where the tour ends on Friday, September 13.
