Panic at the Beach: on St. Augustine’s Anastasia Island

As usual, this Widespread Panic run (September 14-16) sold out almost immediately. Might be a couple ridiculously priced on some resale site, maybe a few available in the lot. If you get in, magic! If not, you can always hang in the lot with the other hopefuls and those just planning to listening as the sounds of the six-headed monster cascade over the berm and into the lot.

Hurricane Irma tried to mess with St. Augustine last year but failed. Florence is not an issue this time — except for the many Spreadheads who headed south for these shows.

So, what do you do after the show? There are at least five events that have surfaced and likely more bubbling under the surface. Let’s start with the Ocean Avenue Sports Bar & Grill. They have shows each night presented by Space Lab Events and LivelyUp Entertainment.

Friday, South Florida’s resident jam kings The Heavy Pets will throw down with the amazing Roosevelt Collier. The Ivan Pulley Band opens. Saturday, Collier joins The Melody Trucks Band, Jacksonville’s own. Ginger Beard Man opens (slide player West Brook from the Trucks Band). And Sunday, another great Jacksonville mainstay, Bonnie Blue, closes out “Never miss a Sunday show” day.

Orlando’s The Groove Orient, jamsters out promoting their soon-to-be released new album, play Friday at Prohibition Kitchen. And Bloodkin, longtime compatriots of Widespread Panic, will play a special show Sunday at Elk Lodge.

Our man Jeff Fernandez will be at the Amphitheatre to catch all the action. All photos here are his from last year’s St. Augustine run.

And, on the horizon:
