Johnny Butler Debuts Music Video for “Burgundy”

Johnny Butler, Brooklyn-based saxophonist, composer, and technologist, has released the video for “Burgundy” from his 2017 album HyperViolet. The track is eerie and transcendent, which is perfect for the video’s setting: Coney Island on a bleak, rainy day. The weather with the ‘sad clown’ personas makes for such a suspenseful cinematic display that you’re almost waiting for something tragic to happen while watching, and yet it never does.

Instead you’re left wondering what brought these two clowns together on Coney Island? Was it to throw paper airplanes into the sea or to make a a couple dollars busking on the boardwalk behind Luna Park? Behind the beautifully shot scenes of Coney Island, “Burgundy” tells the existential tale of Amelia Earhart yearning for something beyond these darkened ocean shores. All the busking and interactions in this film are 100% real – not staged.

HyperViolet  is currently streaming on all platforms, with CDs available for purchase on the Hi4Head Records website, and vinyl can be purchased from Rough Trade.

To see more of Johnny’s jazz-fusion style, head to Brooklyn Bowl on September 16th, where he’ll take the stage with his band featuring dancers from AnA Collaborations. Tickets and more info on the show are available through the Facebook event.
