Hear That ‘Echo’? That Would Be The Fritz on Tour and on Vinyl

“On the fritz” usually means that something has gone badly, gone haywire. “The Fritz on stage,” however, means something entirely different: a wonderful, magical, spiritual experience. The Fritz, Asheville’s funk ambassadors, have a brand new EP due to be released October 12th and are mounting a massive fall tour beginning September 29th at The Calico Room in Wilmington NC (Florence willing). We’ve tried many adjectives and descriptors to fit the Fritz mold, but perhaps their self-description is most apt: an original soul-driven dance rock band. No argument with that.

This tour starts in the Southeast, CukoRakko Fall Festival in Alabama on that schedule, before moving to the East Coast, including five shows with ALO. After Suwannee Hulaween, The Fritz will play four shows in the Midwest and then four in Colorado. They’ll take a quick Thanksgiving break before heading south, winding up, just like last year’s fall tour, with a pair of shows at The Green Parrot in Key West.

The new EP, Echo, also features a magnificent horn section: Natalie Cressman, trombone; Chris Bullock, woodwinds; and Justin Stanton, trumpet. All three are in constant demand in addition to Cressman’s work with the Trey Anastasio Band and Bullock’s and Stanton’s work with Snarky Puppy and the Snarky Puppy Horns.

The Fritz are: Jamar Woods [keyboard and vocals], Jamie Hendrickson [guitar], Jake O’ Connor [bass], Michael Tillis [drums], and Mike “Mikey Spice” Evans [percussion].
