LOCKN’ It Down for Another Great Festival Full of Jams
There are bigger festivals. There are longer festivals. There are festivals with more platinum-sellers. There are festivals with bigger names recognizable to the general public.
However, if you’re talking about a festival with its focus on the jam community, then LOCKN’ is top o’ the heap, numero uno, the epitome, THA BOMB!
Infinity Downs and Oak Ridge Farm welcome you to the 6th annual party, formerly know as the Interlocken Music Festival Thursday, August 23rd, through Sunday, the 26th. There are more than 30 bands on the schedule and, as Zappa liked to say, “not a speck of cereal.” Jam-packed would be a gross understatement. The daily schedule is out. Let’s take a look:
THURSDAY
The key feature this night, other than Joe Russo’s Almost Dead in the late-night slot, is the pairing of Umphrey’s McGee and Lettuce each playing two interlocking sets. The day starts at 4 with the Jerry Dance Party, followed by Firecracker Jam, Erin & the Wildfire, and Butcher Brown.
FRIDAY
Just look at the top of the bill: Widespread Panic, George Clinton & P-Funk (taking a farewell lap, we hear), and Umphrey’s McGee again, this time with Jason Bonham! Toots & the Maytals, Moon Taxi, and Turkuaz also dot the lineup.
New star Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real makes their first appearance. Band of Changes includes Joe Russo (JRAD has the late-night show again as well), Scott Metzger, and Dave Dreiwitz. Add to that Ghost Light, Caitlyn Smith, and The Fuzz Band, and you’ve got a slammed first full day.
SATURDAY

Dead & Company and Tedeschi Trucks Band. Any questions? That’s what we thought. Celebrating 50 years of The Meters, Foundation of Funk will bring it, with George Porter, Jr., Zigaboo Modeliste, Ivan Neville, Tony Hall and more!
Two bands with their own festivals and successful Jam Cruise ventures will be on hand: Pigeons Playing Ping Pong and BIG Something. Keller Williams comes in the guise of Keller and the Keels with the remarkable Larry Keel Experience. Brilliant Memphis exponents Southern Avenue will also make a huge splash.
Agents of Good Roots make a big return after years on hiatus. The Suffers, with frontwoman Kam Franklin, will make you dance, as will Disco Risque. And have a PBR, as in People’s Blues of Richmond.
Lettuce fetes JGB with the midnight set.
SUNDAY
Dead & Company return with two more sets, this night with Branford Marsalis on tenor and soprano saxophones. Also, these will be Dead & Co.’s last shows of 2018. Tedeschi Trucks Band is also back for round two. Sheryl Crow and Blues Traveler also boast Sunday sets.
The amazing Spafford will continue to melt faces, and Matisyahu and The Judy Chops are on the bill, too. And no Sunday would be complete without Keller Williams’ Grateful Gospel.
That’s LOCKN’. Better get goin’.
