Brainquility Festival Teaser – Voodoo Visionary
Brainquility Festival is coming to Florida in just a few weeks and promises to be one of the biggest events to hit the Tampa Bay Area. Taking place Saturday, April 21st, at Waterfront Park in Safety Harbor, Brainquility Festival brings a packed roster of diverse music, unique artists and great food trucks that will have something for everyone.
The one-day festival brings several acts that do not often get to the area, including Lettuce, Beats Antique, Voodoo Visionary, TAUK, MZG, and SIDE TRAKD.
Each week we will highlight one of the acts on the lineup, and this week’s act is funk powerhouse Voodoo Visionary.
Voodoo Visionary was formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2007. Blending funk, dance, disco, jam and rock, they have created their own unique sound they call psychofunk.
After releasing their debut album Spirit Of The Groove in 2015 and its follow-up, Off The Ground, in 2017 the band burst out of Atlanta. Besides sharing the stage with legends such as Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Col. Bruce Hampton, DJ Logic, Zach Deputy, Roosevelt Collier and more, they have also played major festivals such as Counterpoint, Suwannee Hulaween, Sweetwater 420, Purple Hatter’s Ball, Great Outdoors Jam, and many more.
Voodoo Visionary are an explosive live band. Improvisation is a constant with this band, and they do it very well. With funky, bass-heavy songs blending tight keys and soaring guitar riffs, they are band that is nearly impossible not to get sucked into. As our own Scott Hopkins put it in a review of the band, “If you aren’t dancing by now, better call an EMT.”
Voodoo Visionary are Dennis Dowd (keys), Jimmy Lynch (bass), Scott MacDonald (vocals), Mac Schmitz (drums), and Mike Wilson (guitar). For big shows they often travel with a horn section and a percussionist.
