PanoramaNYC Announces 2018 Lineup

A new year is upon us, and with it come the early music festival announcements. One of the newest outliers of the NYC festival scene, Panorama, dropped its 2018 lineup this Wednesday, and it has proven to be one of the most wide-ranging lineups of the year (so far).

Included in Goldenvoice’s East Coast equivalent to Coachella are 2017 heavy-hitters such as The Weeknd, SZA, Migos, Father John Misty, St. Vincent, and Cardi B filling up the headlining and feature spots. Following suit are ladder-climbers in the form of Pvris, Japanese Breakfast, Robert Delong and Rex Orange County amongst Panorama’s lower-billed but promising acts (dropping Downtown Boys into a Bandcamp search reveals an ecclectic edge that channels Sleater-Kinney and rivals the heavily Hip Hop/R&B headliners).

And then there’s Janet Jackson, the biggest surprise in Panorama’s Saturday festivities. After her 2017 State of the World tour and without any new material since 2015’s Unbreakable, Jackson is hitting the stage once again, aiming for the festival circuit which includes the ESSENCE Festival in New Orleans. As this year has kicked off with the In Living Colour-dedicated “Finesse” (possible Jackson/Cardi collaboration on-stage?), it only makes sense that one of the largest pop stars of the late ’80s-early ’90s is spearheading into the summer slate of music festivities.

Now Jackson isn’t the only surprise headliner coming through this year’s Panorama, including the likes of David Byrne and Gucci Mane are billed as sub-liners, the former opening for the return run of The Killers (who are tackling this summer with their Firefly and Boston Calling headlining spots).

The collective and eclectic collection of artists taking the stage at Randall’s Island this year (GovBall included) is only continuing to cement NYC as a formidable locale for music festival success. During its inaugural run, Panorama proved it could stand its ground as an alternate companion to the established Governor’s Ball. Now on its third year, Panorama is showing its ability to stand out with some unexpected and unconventional booking, truly identifying itself as one of the hottest tickets this summer, if not simply to provide its audience with bragging rights of seeing Janet Jackson, The Killers, and part of The Talking Heads in one weekend.

PanoramaNYC will be taking place July 27th, 28th, & 29th. Tickets went on sale this morning. for the best prices, purchase your tickets before midnight Saturday (February 3rd).
