Big Orange Music Festival Set to Light Punta Gorda on Fire with JJ Grey & Mofro And Karl Densen’s Tiny Universe
The Big Orange Music Festival is set to light Punta Gorda, Florida, on fire with a stacked lineup that includes headliner JJ Grey and Mofo, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe and North Mississippi Allstars. Forced to reschedule from its original date on September 9 because Hurricane Irma nearly took out everybody here in The Sunshine State, the festival will take place on Saturday, November 18, at Laishley Park.
This is Grey’s second year at the festival and KTDU’s first. Denson, who recently finished a tour with The Rolling Stones as their saxophonist, is back on the road with his own funk/jam/soul locomotive of a band. KDTU replaces Los Lobos, who were originally on the bill but could not make the new date because of scheduling conflicts.
Southern blues roots originalists Mississippi Allstars will be there as well, playing the kind of deep folk and soul that reflects the bottomless musical history of their home state. They take the place of Eric Lindell, who was part of the original line up but who also couldn’t make November 18 due to a scheduling conflict.
Also part of the initial line up and back for this Saturday’s festival is Georgia bluesman Tinsley Ellis, who will be laying down his bluesy interpretation of The Grateful Dead with Tinsley Ellis Blues Is Dead, and Florida soul rocker Evan Taylor Jones. Local blues artist Sean Chambers will be on the bill as well and is new to the lineup.
