ROCK! AWAY! Music Festival is Serving Up More Than Just Great Tunes
ROCK! AWAY! Music Festival is taking over Riis Park Beach Bazaar this weekend and it looks like we’re in for a weekend full of sun and killer tunes. Between all that dancing, drinking and running from the stage to take a dip in the ocean, you’re going to need some nourishment. Luckily for us, the Beach Bazaar is home to quite a few delicious options from Rockaway locals and Brooklynites alike. Below are my top picks for what to eat and drink there this weekend, but there are a plethora of other options that can be found on the Bazaars website.
By The Beach Cocos
Nothing helps you stay hydrated more than a freshly-cracked, ice-cold Thai coconut. You can find them being served up by locals Mikey Reen and Dylan & Ryan Sirgiovanni, who started their business a few years back, and have had pop-ups all over the Rockaway peninsula. If you’re looking for hydration with a kick, head over to the bar and grab a little something to add into your coconut.
Whit’s End
Whit’s End is a local favorite that set up shop at Riis after their 97th street location closed, serving up perfectly crispy neapolitan wood fired pizzas with amazing toppings. Aside from the pizzas, you will often find some fresh seafood on the menu caught by Whit himself that morning. There’s also a massive t-bone steak that you’ll definitely need the help of your friends to finish. Just remember whatever you order, make sure you don’t try to order a slice.
Rockaway Clam Bar
What’s a beach day without some delectable seafood? Rockaway Clam Bar debuted at Riis this summer, a new project for Rockaway local Susan Povich, who founded the Red Hook Lobster Pound. The stand features delicious seafood centric fair such as ceviche, shrimp and clam rolls.
Fletcher’s Brooklyn Barbecue
Brooklyn’s famous Fletcher’s BBQ has hit the beach this year and they’re smoking their own fare over maple and red oak. Fletcher’s sources meats from farm-cooperatives which raise animals using humane, all-natural, hormone-free practices. They’ll have their famous ribs on deck along with wings, brisket, salads and more!
Along with all these delicious eats, there will be a number of pop-up vendors selling everything from handmade jewelry to trendy bathing suits. You can check out the full festival schedule here, and if you just can’t get enough music during the day, there will be after-parties goin’ on all weekend!
