Wanee Wednesday – A Special Early Day To Remember A Legend

Wanee Festival 2017 runs Thursday April 20th through Saturday April 22nd. On Wednesday April 19th, a special group of musicians will come together on Wanee Wednesday to honor a true legend that we lost this year as they pay tribute to Butch Trucks.

Butch was a founding member of The Allman Brothers Band and a longtime staple at Spirit Of Suwanee Music Park.

To say that Butch Trucks has left a mark on SOSMP would be a dramatic understatement. The Allman Brothers started Wanee Festival in 2005 and played every year through 2014. Butch continued to frequently play at the park with other bands such as Les Brers and numerous guest appearances with other bands on essentially every stage the park has to offer. (Butch was considering changing the name of Les Brers to The Brothers, thinking people might have been confused. Glad it stayed put.)

Les Brers

Butch Trucks & The Freight Train Band played extensively over the past 13 months, keeping Butch’s vision alive and taking great players young and old on the road with him. It is that which was slated to play on Wanee Wednesday, and it will be that band, now featuring Cody & Luther Dickinson. This alone will surely be an incredibly powerful performance where emotions are bound to run high. The other members of the band are the amazing Bruce Katz, keyboards (also with Les Brers); Matt Walker, bass; and Heather Gillis and Damon Fowler, both of whom play guitar and lap steel and sing.

The tributes will continue with New Orleans Suspects, Crazy Fingers, the Ben Sparaco Band, Matt Reynolds and Brothers & Sisters.

Wanee Wednesday tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the Spirit Of Suwanee Music Park gate upon arrival on Wednesday.
