This Year’s Record Store Day Ambassador Has Been Announced!
Record Store Day has made history this year with the announcement of their first-ever female Record Store Day Ambassador. Annie Clark, a.k.a. St. Vincent, will join the impressive list of past heirs to the RSD throne such as Metallica, Dave Grohl, Jack White, and Josh Homme.
The first Record Story Day took place on April 19, 2008, as a way to promote and support the remaining independently owned record stores in the United States. The “holiday” was conceptualized by record store owners and staff members who firmly believe in the value of physical music. In the post-internet era, digital music rules the industry and has deeply wounded the demand for CDs and vinyl. But, even as the number of record stores dwindles, shop owners, artists and supporters of the industry refuse to see their passion antiquated.
This year, Record Story Day will take place on April 22. Special vinyl and CD releases, limited editions and exclusive products are made available, often only for RSD. Many shops turn the day into an all-out party with food, drinks, meet-and-greets, live music and art exhibits. Fans, artists, shop owners and staff come together to celebrate the unique culture that they are all a part of and to support each other in the quest to keep record stores alive! The announcement of St. Vincent as the 2017 Record Store Day Ambassador came in the form of an absurdly awesome Funny or Die video. Annie Clark is informed of her new role as ambassador to a fictional Russian island known as “Recorstorda.” She rigorously trains for her new position before discovering the miscommunication caused by auto-correct. Check out the amusing video below. Congrats on the job, St. Vincent!

A new St. Vincent album is likely to be released this spring. Annie Clark has promised fans an unapologetic and political new record in 2017. Her next release will be her first since 2014’s self-titled album. St. Vincent was hailed as a triumph and received universal praise. We will be keeping an eye out for what the brilliant Annie Clark has in store for us next!
