Holey Miss Moley Takes Their Shake It With Me Tour Cross-Country
Florida has been busy over the past year or two spreading the wealth, sending some of the very best music Florida has to offer across the U.S. Come Back Alice, Flat Land, Leisure Chief, The Bath Salt Zombies and The Groove Orient have followed the path set by other great Sunshine State products such as The Lee Boys, The Heavy Pets, and Greenhouse Lounge.
Next up to bat: Holey Miss Moley. This nine-member funk monster comes from “all over Florida,” according to singer Danny Clemmons, himself a Hoosier. Based more or less in St. Petersburg, this amazing band has been ready for the national stage for some time. Holey Miss Moley has a handful of February dates left before taking their Florida-grown funk on the road again. They embark on a 36-date Shake It With Me Tour starting March 1st, stretching through Florida’s premier musical showcase, Orange Blossom Jamboree, in May.
Along the way, they will cruise through Georgia and North Carolina (four shows), then to Maryland and New York (four in the Empire State), five shows in Ohio, four in Wisconsin, and shows in Indiana, Alabama and NOLA before returning home. The tour kicks of at 1904 Hall in Jacksonville on March 1.
Holey Miss Moley are: Danny Clemmons, vocals and MC; Robyn Alleman, vocals; Christian Ryan, flute, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones; Jacob Cox, guitar; Mikey Guzman, keyboards; Kenneth ‘Bonesaw’ Harvey; bass; Yral ‘datdudeondrums’ Morris, drums; Tony Morales, percussion; and Vernon Suber, percussion. For this tour, Alleman, Guzman and Morris will not be on board due to prior engagements. At the drum kit will be Jamal ‘Music City’ Wright, formerly with Herd of Watts and a regular substitute with the band.
This band can tackle anything. They perform a superb Meters tribute every year (and include a number of that band’s tunes in their repertoire). They have presented evenings of hip hop, P-Funk, and more. Many have performed with Christian Ryan in his Zappa tributes and Year in Review project. They have a number of excellent originals as well, including a stunning Afrobeat tune appropriately titled “Afroshaft.”
Clemmons is an excellent frontman and powerful vocalist. When he performs Galactic’s “Heart of Steel,” you know you’re looking directly into his soul. Cox is a superb guitarist who can blister Nocentelli, Trower, Hazel and more. Harvey has developed into a dynamic bass player who fits in perfectly with the nasty percussion section with Wright, Morales and Suber.
And then there is Christian Ryan. This man, at the tender age of 24, has logged 250+ gigs the past three years, been a regular member of Holey Miss Moley, Joose, Bengali 600 and Leisure Chief, and been a contributing member of a dozen more groups. He has curated some amazing tribute sets, including Soulquarian, Zappa, and his tribute to 2016’s lost artists.
