U2 to Headline Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival 2017
With only two days before Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival graces us with their 2017 lineup, AC Entertainment & Superfly have just announced that Irish rock band U2 will be headlining the festival this summer. This will mark the band’s first-ever U.S. festival appearance and will see Bono, The Edge and the rest of gang performing the album The Joshua Tree to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
The Joshua Tree, which was released on May 9th, 1987, is U2’s best-selling album with over 25 million copies worldwide and is one of the best-selling albums of all time. It won two Grammys for Best Rock Album and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal in 1988. In 2014, it was selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry by U.S. Congress. The album conceptualizes their fondness as well as their distaste for American ideals with their backbone of stylistic themes we can trace from American and Irish roots music. The lyrics paint a sonnet that builds a foundation for a politically focused self-awareness. The album’s songs “With or Without You” and “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” are the bands only number-one hit singles to date.
Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival 2017 will take place June 8th – 11th. The festival will announce the full 2017 lineup with tickets going on sale this Wednesday, January 11th, at 8 am ET. For more information, please visit their official site.
