Violent Femmes Can ‘Do Anything:’ Catch Them on Tour This Fall!

violent-femmes-we-can-do-anythingViolent Femmes have disbanded and regrouped multiple times since their inception in 1980. It’s only prudent that the iconic group take part in the explosion of ’90s band reunions in recent years. The band hadn’t released new material since 2000, after which singer/songwriter Gordon Gano announced that they were officially done recording new music. But 2016 was destined to be the year that Gano had a change of heart. This past March the Femmes released You Can Do Anything.

The album was met with mixed reviews by fans and critics. But, love it or leave it, there’s no doubt that this is the twangy, melodic and quirky Violent Femmes we’ve known all along, with Gano as wonderfully skittish and fervent as ever. At times, You Can Do Anything supplies a vibrant revival of the Femmes’ signature folk-punk sound, while emotive tracks like “What You Really Mean” provide a sappy (but welcomed) punch in the gut.

Violent Femmes have just announced a multi-city fall tour taking place predominantly on the East Coast. Though a New York City stop is absent from the lineup, the band will visit both Long Island (The Paramount: Huntington, NY) and Westchester County ( The Capitol Theater: Port Chester, NY). Just a couple of months ago the Femmes played a packed-out free show in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park as part of the BRIC Arts Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival. The show on June 18th included a setlist chock full of beloved Femmes’ fan favorites and a handful of new material.

Tickets for some shows are already available, and tickets for both New York dates go on sale this Friday, August 5th. Get yours here!
