#ThrowBackThursday: Gary Chardonnay Helps You Plan for Bonnaroo
The schedule is out (check it here), and we are fast approaching the one-month mark until our annual return to paradise: the hot, sweaty, dirty, more music and friends than you could ever know what to do with paradise that is the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. We love it so much that many of us here at MusicFestNews are seasoned veterans. It was my first festival, in fact, and this year I will be entering the Farm for my seventh consecutive ‘Roo. This got me thinking about years past and how the festival has changed, and something dawned on me. Whatever happened to Gary Chardonnay?
Bonnaroo veterans will remember Gary. He was our smooth, suave guide to all things Bonnaroo in 2011, a time when Bonnaroo organizers clearly had too much time on their hands. Aside from chiming in on Bonnaroo radio, we also got some pretty nifty videos of Gary lending helpful advice for the festival. It was his goal to make sure that Bonnaroovians had a safe, fun time by sharing his tips on everything from how to pack, how to get there, what to do about bugs, and how to stay cool.
He was our slightly creepy but very wise Bonnaroo guardian for a few years before he suddenly vanished. He probably got stuck in the Silent Disco at 5 am and has yet to emerge. Happens to the best of us, Gary (not that I know from experience or anything).
While Gary Chardonnay is a relic of Bonnaroos past, his advice is timeless. We managed to dig up some of his oldies but goodies to help you get ready for Bonnaroo this year. Whether it’s your 15th or your first, you can never be too prepared! See you guys on the Farm!
