Foothills Fest Announces First Wave of Artists for October 14-15

The beautiful Saline County Fairgrounds in Marshall MO will again be home to the fourth annual Foothills Fest, presented by the Foothills Fest Family, Mustang Sally’z Saloon, Wood & Huston Bank, and Classic Hits Power 97.7. Put the dates in your calendar now: Friday, October 14th and Saturday, October 15th.

Since 2013, Foothills Fest has staged 40+ bands from across the nation, created a venue for local artists and artisans, raised thousands of dollars for education, and brought the community together to give Marshall its own artistic identity. The festival is known as a must-attend fall event for friends and family, food and drink, a warm positive vibe, and, of course, top-tier multi-genre music. For thousands of people around Saline County and across Missouri, Foothills Fest is the place to be.

The initial wave of artists lets you know that this will be a fabulous time musically, and this is only the first wave of artists announced, with many more to come.

Kansas City’s “Blues Queen” Samantha Fish is one of FF16’s headliners. The guitar slinger’s 2015 album Wild Heart, produced by Luther Dickinson (North Mississippi Allstars), hit number one on the Billboard Blues charts. Her first album Runaway earned Fish a Blues Music Award for Best New Artist Debut (2011).

Come Back Alice, the superb swamp funk rockers from St. Petersburg, will play both nights, featuring two triple-threat performers: Tony Tyler, vocals, keyboards and guitar; and Dani Jaye, vocals, violin and guitar.  They will be performing both nights, including a special Allman Brothers tribute set on Friday night. They have played both Live at the Fillmore and Eat a Peach at festivals. Come Back Alice is in the first wave of artists announced for Suwannee Hulaween. And their video “Coraline” has been awarded Music Video of the Year by the Los Angeles Guerrilla Film Festival!

Atlanta’s talented Copious Jones combine intelligent lyrics, heavy jamming and some great funk. They will playing at Mountain Jam in June. Their enthusiasm is contagious. If your question right now is: “Who is Copious Jones?” it’s for certain you’ll know after they have played.

Indie folk-rock quartet Violet and the Undercurrents (Columbia MO) have been described as “sophisticated folk-rockers,” but such labels melt away when your vocalist is classically trained and other members of the band have jazz backgrounds; it’s clear this female group can head in any direction they want.

Shreveport jam-rockers Magnolia Brown feature inventive setlists and extended jams, bringing their Louisiana/Texas sensibilities with them.

Heat-bringers Black Daniels and the Bears from Kirksville offer alt-bluegrass with keyboards and drums. Russellville AR natives Jamie Lou and the Hullabaloo will delight; she is a talented singer-songwriter, and the band moves from acoustic folk to indie grooves seamlessly.

There is no way you’re going to miss the Mucker Futhers when they declare: “We are Warbot wizard space pirates from another galaxy. All music improvised right before your eyes. With Invader on keyboards and funky sounds and Abductor on drums.”

Cauldron Point and Cosmic Loaner(s) are also on the lineup, and you won’t want to miss the FF’16 Saturday Showcase for local area talent. And three special artists at large will be on hand for both days of the festival: Tony Tyler (Come Back Alice), Heather Gillis and Jimmy Rector. Rector is a talented artist, percussionist and drummer. Gillis is another dynamite guitar slinger (that makes three on the lineup with Samantha Fish and Dani Jaye!) who has her own excellent quartet and is a member of Butch Trucks and the Freight Train Band.

Tickets to the two-day festival are only $20 at the gate, and you will be able to save even more with a presale ticket for under $15, and those prices includes camping. You’ll never find a better deal than this!

Be sure to check the official Foothills Fest website and Facebook page for much more information!
