Teddy Midnight Kicks Off Residency With a Bang
It takes a lot to get me to Times Square, especially on a very blustery Sunday night. But I decided that it was worth the trip and the maze of tourists to catch the first night of Teddy Midnight’s residency at Lucille’s, a smaller room inside B.B King’s named after his beloved guitar. The boys were just getting on stage as I walked in, and the front tables and bar were filled with fans (and a few unsuspecting tourists as well.) The Brooklyn based Electro-Dance-Funk quartet captivated the audience with incredible instrumental grooves and intricate melodies throughout the entire set. The addition of Wiley Griffin has brought a new dynamic to the group; you can tell they’re having fun on stage and really playing off one another’s energy, which is my favorite thing to see in a band. Sean McAuley took over on keys when Wiley joined the band. He’s able to complement both Wiley’s intricate riffs and bassist Sean Silvas’ killer bass lines with ease; holding everything together is of course drummer Adam Magnan, together they create a sound that is intoxicating and gets you dancing as soon as it hits your ears. If you want to see for yourself (and you really should) you can catch the remaining residency shows the next two Sundays 1/24 & 1/31 at 10 PM at Lucille’s, as a special treat they have added an additional set to each night. You can also catch them on their winter tour.
