On The Rise: Joon
Joon is a rock quartet with funky undertones from Enfield, Connecticut. Originally formed by guitarist/vocalist Carl DiFederico and bassist, Ryan Guhne, they are now joined by Luc Gendreau on drums and Olivia Gaines on vocals. Joon at its core is a four-piece band made up of guitar, bass, and drums, featuring powerful vocals, creative and melodic rhythm guitar parts with complex guitar riffs, and a funky but driving rhythm section. Joon also occasionally features fellow musicians on saxophone and trumpet.
Although they are just getting their start, Joon’s live shows are inclusive and versatile, providing any demographic with a great range of music to enjoy. Their sets are filled with catchy originals and powerful covers such as “All Along The Watchtower.” Each member of Joon is inspired by a variety of different genres and artists, which has successfully led the band to create their own evolving sound. Some main inspirations include Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stevie Wonder and Grace Potter. Covering a large demographic throughout CT, RI and MA, Joon has played a variety of venues big and small. Starting off with local open mics and taverns, Joon has since expanded to performing at notable venues and events alike. Some favorites include BAR and Stella Blues in New Haven, Hennessy’s in Boston and The Spot in Providence. The group has also started to branch out into the festival world at Student Prince & Fort Cafe Oktoberfest and SummerFest in Monson, MA.
Joon’s self-titled debut EP was released today and is available for download through iTunes, streaming is available through Spotify and the bands website. Although its track list is short, you can hear the potential this band has in every song.
