Kelly Richey On Tour After Release of 16th Album, Shakedown Soul
Kelly Richey is one of the greatest guitar players you’ve never heard of. This Cincinnati blues slinger has been amazing audiences across the country and the globe with her brilliant technique and soul-driven passion. She has earned her frequent flier miles, racking up more than a million miles traveling to 4,000 shows.
Richey has been at it since she was 15 years old, and in the 35 years since has garnered rave reviews wherever she has played. It might sound sacrilegious to speak of Richey in the same breath with Jimi and Stevie Ray, but the comparisons are more than apt. Richey and Canadian Sean Kellerman are two blistering, flame-throwing guitar players who deserve to be on the biggest stages.
Richey just released her 16th album, another superb disk, titled Shakedown Soul. Richey handles the vocals as well as guitar chores. Some have likened her to Janis Joplin. Time for more sacrilege: Joplin was a blues screamer and shouter; Richey is a better singer.
Her new tour sends her from Tennessee to Florida, then back up through the Midwest. She held her album release party recently, but five more of the upcoming shows are also release party events. She is joined by Rikk Manning on bass and Tobe “Tobotius” Donahue on drums. The two Florida shows are solo performances.
