Afropunk Atlanta 2015 Canceled
Atlanta’s Afropunk Fest has been canceled due to weather. The festival was scheduled to take place the weekend of October 3rd and October 4th. For 10 years this festival has been taking place in Brooklyn, New York. This year would have been the first time Atlanta would have experienced Afropunk. However, due to the chaos that happened last weekend at TomorrowWorld, it’s no surprise that they would want to protect themselves from anything going terribly wrong. This may have been a tough decision but I respect any festival that would cancel an event for the safety of it’s attendee’s.
Approximately 10,000 ticket holders were expected to be at the event this weekend. Every single one of them will be automatically refunded at point of purchase. Afropunk’s lineup included big names such as Flying Lotus, D’Angelo and The Vanguard, Tyler The Creator, and Santigold. Looks like we will have to wait until next year for this wonderful debut to create history here in Atlanta.
“Safety is always the #1 concern for any of our festivals, nothing is more important. Over the course of the past 10 years of AFROPUNK’s existence there has never been a serious injury on site and we plan to keep it that way with this tough decision to cancel the fest. We’re looking forward to AFROPUNK ATLANTA 2016.” – Matthew Morgan (Founder)
