III Points Music Art & Tech Festival 2015 Returns To Mana Studios (We Know You’re Sorry You Missed the Last One)
The third annual III Points Music, Art, & Technology Festival will be making its grand return to Wynwood’s Mana Studios on October 9th. After a successful sophomore year at SoHo Studios, the homegrown festivals organizers proclaim that this year’s production will be “bigger than ever.” The eclectic lineup continues to bring the musical variety that Miami yearns for. The festival also puts a tremendous emphasis on community involvement, hosting several activations around the art district that are open to the public, which range from workshops to performances in more intimate venues/galleries.
In a recent interview with Miami New Times, the festival’s founders share how now that the festival is established and people know what they can expect musically, a bigger emphasis can be placed on the art and technology aspect. Mana Studios, the festival’s original location, is a much bigger location than SoHo studios. III Points founder David Sinopoli told the Miami New Times, “Mana is a very magical space for us because the chaos of year one started there,” says Sinopoli. “We have way more capabilities at Mana to produce a state-of-the-art experience.” Their recent partnership with the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami means we can likely expect a lot more extravagant installations similar to those seen in previous years.
As far as the lineup for III Points this year, it certainly doesn’t disappoint. Sporting one of the most eclectic, club-friendly lineups of the year, the buzz around this tech and art fest is already getting pretty loud.
Nicolas Jaar is bringing his down-tempo beats to the streets (he refers to his sound as “blue-wave”) and is sure to have the crowd swaying for hours. Literally. III Points invited him to headline the festival and celebrate their third birthday with a three-hour long set.
Eclectic UK house producer Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs will bring his house beats and unique stageshow.
Coming off a crazy summer festival season, we will also get a treat from hip hop rapper/producer duo Run the Jewels, comprised of El-P and Killer Mike. Their aggressive, dark style has won them a lot of critical praise, and their non-stop summer circuit has gained them countless new supporters.
Noah Benjamin Lennox, better known as Panda Bear (and also of Animal Collective fame), will also be joining the party, as well as a highly anticipated set from British producer Bonobo.
Coming away from the DJ sets, we will also see some awesome indie tunes from LA-based lady rockers War Paint and indie-pop powerhouse Chaz Bundick (but you may know him better as Toro y Moi). Unknown Mortal Orchestra will bring the psych-rock, so don’t you worry about that. Hometown Florida surf-rock outfit Surfer Blood will also be there, rounding out a genre variety that knocks the socks off many other large-scale festivals.
Oh, and so will Ghostface Killah and MF DOOM, who will be debuting their new DOOMSTARKS collaboration.
Not to mention the plethora of local favorites including Niko Javan who was recently named Miami’s Best Electronica Artist by the Miami New Times. Do you really need any more of a reason to go? If you do, here is the full lineup, just in case.
