Home Grown Music Network Celebrates 20 Years With October Festival

If you have looked for CDs on the internet that your local shops have never even heard of, you’ve probably discovered the Home Grown Music Network, a repository of all things jam — in all its glorious permutations and combinations. Perhaps you have patronized their booth at various festivals or perused the quarterly catalogs that teach you about new music and remind you about stuff you ‘need.’

Remarkably, it has been 20 years since Lee Crumpton and Home Grown Music Network  began this journey, and 20 years is a perfect excuse to celebrate — with a festival!

Leeway’s Home Grown Network’s 20th Anniversary Festival will be held October 1-3 in Mebane NC, on the same site that just hosted The BIG What? This stellar line-up includes music of all sizes and descriptions. Take, for instance, the four at the top of the bill: Lotus, Keller Williams, Big Something and Barefoot Manner. These four alone cover the entire spectrum of the scene, from bluegrass and Americana to funk and jamtronica — and everything in between.

And the rest of the line-up is full of excellent established bands and many, many on the rise. MusicFestNews will do a full preview soon, but in the meantime:

The original HGMN Festival was a two-night event 20 years ago, and three of the ten bands return for the 20th: Keller Williams, Peter Prince and Moon Boot Lover, and Purple Schoolbus.

On HGMN’s Facebook page, they have run weekly features on a number of the bands to date: Urban Soil, Rumpke Mountain Boys, Electric Soul Pandemic, The Royal Noise, Rebekah Todd & The Odyssey, Big Daddy Love, Cornmeal, The Broadcast, The Get Right Band, and David Dixon Trio

And look for future features about these groups: The Recipe, Roots of Creation, Dangermuffin, Moses Guest, The Hip Abduction, Max Allen Band, Sol Roots, Fat Cheek Kat, Imperial Blend, The Floorboards, Option 22, and Nick & The Babes w/ JoJo

It’s all there: soul, funk, reggae, Americana, bluegrass, Afropop, Southern rock Texas-style.
