TAUK Threw Down For Their Hometown Show
Midtown Live is an intimate venue tucked away in bustling Midtown Manhattan, with a small stage that packed a lot of talent this past Friday night. Before headliner and hometown band TAUK hit the stage, Boston-based Ripe squeezed their six-piece pop-funk ensemble on stage. Although Ripe was unknown to me before they began their set, I was dancing immediately. The bands energy thrives off of lead singer Robbie Wulfsohn, who brings a contagious energy to both his band and the audience. After their hour-long set, which featured an amazing cover of The Lion King‘s “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King,” I can definitely say I won’t be missing them the next time they’re in town.
The venue filled as the crowd gathered closer to wait for TAUK to take the stage, and once they did the place exploded. The small venue was the perfect setting for their transcendent instrumental style, filling the whole place with their dreamy melodic grooves. The set mostly covered the band’s latest album Collisions, which was released in July 2014, but it also featured some fan favorites from their 2013 album Homunculus. This was a highly anticipated hometown show for the band, and their excitement definitely showed. The love they showed their audience was felt by everyone in the room. The night ended with a cover of Nirvana’s “Come As You Are.”
You can catch TAUK hitting the festival circuit hard this summer! There’s no excuse not to catch their set at any of these festivals: New Orleans Jazz Fest, Purple Hatter’s Ball, ColorDance Music & Arts Festival, Counterpoint Music Festival, Summer Camp Music Festival, Revival Music Festival, Wakarusa, Mad Tea Party Jam, Electric Forest, All Good Music Festival, Paradise Music & Arts Festival, The Werk Out, Camp Barefoot Music Festival, Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion, and Resonance Festival.
