Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band Returns to Asheville
Asheville, NC welcomes home the funkiest band in the land. Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band (YMBFBB) returns from their latest road trip with a show at the iconic Orange Peel Social Aid and Pleasure Club on March 21, and they’re bringing along some friends. Special guests Kofi Burbridge (Tedeschi-Trucks Band) and The Brothership Horns (featuring members of Empire Strikes Brass and Travers Brothership) will join YMBFBB on stage, along with opening acts Green Sunshine (Tampa, FL) and Porch 40 (Cullowhee, NC). There will also be an art exhibit by local artist Adam Strange. MusicFestNew.com will be there to cover the funk that is certain to envelop the club.
Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band formed in 2002 and went through a few incarnations before culminating into the dynamic ensemble it is today. Mary Frances “Mama Funk” creates a sultry platform for her keyboard and keytar playing with her powerhouse vocals. Laying down the bottom is Al Al “Sweet Nasty” Ingram on bass and vocals and Derrick “Dr Ock” Johnson on trombone. JP “Smoke Machine” Miller soars on guitar, and Lee “Insta Funk” Allen drives it all forward on drums. The five-piece funk rock outfit fuels their high-energy show with original compositions, triumphant horns, laid-back grooves and heavy backbeats. They’re true road warriors, averaging 150 shows per year. The band’s fourth studio album, Funk Life, will be released in June.
