Gotta Let Your Soul Shine: Soulshine Farm Music Festival!
The Soulshine Farm Music Festival makes its third appearance at Green Mountain NC August 11-13. That’s just a week away! 37 bands and musicians will be there to entertain you. And you don’t have your tickets yet? Lucky for you it’s not too late!
This year’s fest includes more than a dozen of Asheville’s finest, many more from North Carolina, plus four from Florida and one from Chicago! Heading up the list are Acoustic Syndicate, Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, The Mantras, and The Fritz, providing a range from Americana and rock to prog rock and all-out funk.
Florida emerges first in the form of Come Back Alice and their Southern gypsy funk and The Applebutter Express with their delightful acoustic show. Also playing will be funk rockers Displace, who just released their second album, Undertow, and the reggae, funk and rock of the Savi Fernandez Band.
Afropop and world? Zansa! Brass overload? Empire Strikes Brass! More reggae, dub and ska? Dub Kartel and Saylyn Roots Reggae! And Sol Rhythms delivers Latin and Afro-Cuban beats.
There is more rock on the bill, with Dr. Bacon, Freeway Revival and Kolkata, who play Dead… and more. And it’s tough to ignore the acoustic boogie madness of The Screamin’ J’s.
Acoustic, bluegrass, Americana and folk are extremely well represented, with Nikki Talley and Jason Sharp, Bill and Friends, Ralph Roddenberry, Aaron “Woody” Wood, Polly Lorien, the Kendra Warren/Lillian Farian Tew Duo, Ali Randolph and the Outta Luck Band, and Ton of Hay. And that Chicago band is Under the Willow, beautiful bluegrass with a great message.
Not done yet. You get Mojo roots music from Paper Crowns and smokin’ mountain grass courtesy of the Bald Mountain Boys. Add to that ClarifEye with John David Arisen, Smokey Joe and the South Toe Syndicate, Pete and Kim McWhirter, and David Wiseman.
Of course there are more! 3 Little Birds, Sugar Daddy, Awake in the Dream, and Ken Ramsey fill out the bill. Did we mention that Carl Schmid, he of the “Schnmiddle Fiddle,” is Artist at Large?
Soulshine Farm. Green Mountain. Three glorious days of music.
